Purple Loosestrife, also known as Lythrum salicaria, is a robust native plant that immediately catches the eye with its upright spikes of vivid pink to purple-pink flowers. This perennial plant occurs naturally in moist areas such as ditch banks, marshes and wet grasslands.

From June through September the plant blooms abundantly, making it a true magnet for bees, bumblebees, butterflies and other nectar seekers. Purple Loosestrife combines natural beauty with high ecological value. Perfect for a lively, biodiverse garden!
For what purposes can I use Purple Loosestrife?
Purple Loosestrife is very suitable for:

Natural pond banks
Rain gardens
Pond edges
Rainwater gardens
Flowery marsh zones
Wet flower meadows
Striking solitary in the border

Due to its preference for moist soil, it is ideal for places where other plants struggle to survive. Combine with species such as valerian or marsh marigold for a flowering, natural whole.
What are the characteristics of Purple Loosestrife?

Native, perennial plant
Blooms throughout summer
Beautiful striking pink/purple flowers
Attracts bees, bumblebees and butterflies
Suitable for wet, nutrient-rich soils

How do I sow Purple Loosestrife?
Sow Purple Loosestrife preferably in spring (March-May) or autumn (September-October). Choose a moist, sunny to semi-shaded location, preferably with nutrient-rich soil.

The seeds can be sown directly into open ground. Press lightly but do not cover completely as they need light to germinate. Keep the soil moist during the germination period. Seeds usually germinate within 2 to 4 weeks. Allow approximately 1 gram of seed per 1–2 m².
How do I maintain Purple Loosestrife?
Purple Loosestrife requires little maintenance as long as the location remains sufficiently moist. In natural plantings or along banks, one mowing per year is sufficient, preferably in autumn (September-October), after setting seed. Leave the cuttings for a few days so the seed can disperse and then remove them. The plant is fully winter-hardy and returns stronger each year, especially when it has space to establish itself.
